It looks like DC and Warner Bros, with all due respect to Smallville, finally has a winner on their hands in the live action department. And it’s also nice that it’s someone other than Batman. The good news about last night’s mid-season finale of Arrow was that it delivered the goods and laid the ground work for its future. The bad would be that we have to wait a month for its return.
Spoiler warnings ahead…
War seems to be coming to Starling City but it isn’t Brother Blood who’s leading the charge. That would be Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke. Anyone who has been watching since season 1 knows that Slade (Manu Bennett) was on the island where Oliver Queen was on after the shipwreck. But up until last night’s “Three Ghosts” episode, he was only shown in flashbacks. Now, with his trademark eye patch, he is very much in the present and living in Starling City .
Manu Bennett as Slade Wilson AKA Deathstroke |
How his friendship with Oliver has now turned into one of hate and revenge is still evolving. But the fact that he is here and he is clearly the man behind Brother Blood and his army of “supermen” is the stuff that makes fanboys and fangirls alike scream a resounding… YES!
Give credit to both DC and Warner for going all out with Arrow. They’ve thrown away the “no tights, no flights” edict that handcuffed Smallville and turned the Green Arrow into a compelling and complex hero that I want to root for and read more about.
A mask to complete the look |
As for Barry Allen. Although important in the overall storyline, his appearance was more understated until the last five minutes. For one thing, we can thank him with providing Oliver with a parting gift of a mask. And we witnessed the birth of The Flash when he arrived back at Central City to witness the Particle Acceleration being activated. Unfortunately for Barry but fortunately for us, an electrical storm has arrived. A lot of rain, a lot of chemicals and a failing Particle Acceleration leads us to… THE FLASH!
A storm is coming Barry! |
January 15th can’t come soon enough and neither can the new Flash series.
