GAME REVIEW: STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT

It has all been about the Wars for the better part of a couple of years ever since George Lucas sold his stake in the franchise he created to the Walt Disney Company. Now with Episode VII a month away, a new video game was released with incredible fanfare is the latest Battlefront game for the PS4, Xbox and PC gaming platforms.
Admittedly, as big a Star Wars fan as I am, games were never their strong suit. Most games in the past basically relived moments from the films i.e. The Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith. They were mediocre at best. However, the Battlefront games were the exception. There has been much hype regarding this game leading up to its release. Does it live up to the hype? Let’s take a look inside the game…

Like any game, there are pros and there are cons. Battlefront’s greatest strength by far is its visual beauty. In a word, it’s gorgeous. You can easily get caught up in its presentation. And the sound and music within the game, don’t underestimate its importance in the gaming experience, especially to a Star Wars fanatic. Besides, who doesn’t want to be their favorite Star Wars character? The game itself runs fairly smoothly (for this review, it was played on a PS4) and the controls are user-friendly. Which is a nice change from past games.

Those were the highs. Now, let’s look at some of the lows. If you want to customize, you may be disappointed because Battlefront is severely lacking in this department. You’ll also notice the more you play, the more it becomes repetitive. This could make repeat game play challenging for some gamers. Although I didn’t get a chance to try, it’s my understanding that a season pass to showcase your skills against those around the Internet could set you back a pretty penny.
My final verdict: ***1/2 out of 5 stars. Battlefront is a solid work of art, but it’s not a perfect game.
May the Dork be with you,
