THE WALKING DEAD: WINTER PREMIERE RECAP

The Walking Dead returned Sunday night with a bang… literally. And with it, this episode titled, “No Way Out”, may be one of the very best of the series thus far. Warning, spoilers ahead…

The winter premiere picked up with the bonus scene from its winter finale and the first hint of the character of Negan. Now, Negan does not appear in this episode but if this episode is any indication of what’s to come, buckle up. The best way to discuss this episode and its impact on the rest of the season is to highlight the important parts.

Daryl, Abraham and Sasha are captured by members of Negan’s gang. They surrendered their weapons and words were exchanged when Abraham questioned, “whose Negan?”  Just when it appeared Abraham and Sasha were going to get shot, the biker gang gets blown to bits courtesy of Daryl and a bazooka. Who knew he had one in the back of the truck

Rick and company as you may remember were trying to make their way out of Alexandria when the surrounding wall was breached and a flow of walkers had spilled into their community. Rick and the others had doused themselves with zombie guts in order to mask their scent. Things did not go very well when Jessie’s son, Sam began to panic and endangered the rest of the group. He was then attacked and killed by a horde of walkers. A stunned Jessie could only look on in horror. She tried to save him but she too was attacked and killed. Having now lost both his brother and his mother, Ron finally takes aim at killing Carl. With his gun drawn and ready to pull the trigger, Ron is killed by Michonne with a katana through his chest but not before he gets off a shot that hits Carl in the eye and through his skull. This is the image that fans of the comic book have waited to see wand wondered when it would happen.
RIP Ron, Jesse and Sam

Rick and Michonne carry the injured Carl to the infirmary where Denise was able to save Carl’s life. And speaking of Denise, she was able to escape her Wolf captor after being shot dead by Carol. He did however save her earlier from walkers and essentially sacrificed himself.

The body count was the highest I’ve ever seen. Walkers galore were sliced, diced or shot. Daryl, Abraham and Sasha arrive like the cavalry to bail out Glenn who was fighting off walkers in order to draw them away from Maggie. So much went on that this one hour episode felt like it went in a blink of an eye. It was that good and that intense and we haven’t seen Negan yet. Can’t wait till next week.

May the Dork be with you,
