THE WALKING DEAD: NOT TOMORROW YET RECAP

War is coming and this time Rick and the others may have bitten off more than they could chew. After watching Carol doing her best Mother knows best and being a good neighbor routine to open up “Not Tomorrow Yet”, the harsh reality of the world comes with a single shout of, “They’re back!” Warning, spoilers ahead…

Last week after Rick declared his intentions to strike at Negan and the Saviors for what they’ve down to the Hilltop community, they return to Alexandria with the supplies they were able to get from Hilltop and discuss their next move against Negan. Rick gathers the folks of Alexandria inside the church and explains his reasons for wanting to strike now against the Saviors. He tells his community of the threat the Saviors imposes on all of them. His logic is to strike at them before the Saviors come after them and Alexandria. Most seem to be on board with the exception of the skeptical Morgan who questions Rick on whether or not they could win this fight against the unknown Negan. Rick believes they can and the others seem to be all in.

The night before venturing out on this attack on the Saviors compound, several people are having some restless feelings. Carol looks a log she keeps of her kills, which she determines to be at 18. She later goes for a smoke and a nightly stroll where she sees and chats with Tobin. He’s scared for her going on this mission. The two share an intimate moment. Meanwhile, Maggie and Glenn discuss the plan for tomorrow and it is agreed that given Maggie’s physical condition (being pregnant), it would be best if she stayed at the perimeter and keep watch. As for Abraham, he decides that this would be a great time to part ways with Rosita who is left hurt and angry. Oh Abraham, you have a lot to learn about women.

The next day, Rick, Glenn, Michonne, Daryl, Maggie and a member of the Hilltop community map out a plan of compound and where the armory may be located. Rick wants to attack at night as a means of surprise. Their ticket in… the head of Gregory. And no, it’s not the real Gregory but one of the walker heads as suggested by Jesus. That night, a car pulls up to the compound and is immediately met with a bright red light and a couple members of the Saviors fully armed. Andy shows the severed head of “Gregory”. One of the men accepts the head offering as proof of Gregory’s demise and goes inside to get their hostage. When he leaves to get the hostage, Daryl kills the other. The man returns with the hostage and is immediately killed by Michonne. Rick and the others come out of hiding and make their way into the compound.

Room by room the group kills off members of the Saviors. For Glenn, this was his first human kill and it was very clear how terrified he was in doing so. Regardless of his feelings, he does what they came here to do. Sasha and Abraham find a door that’s locked. A man appears and strikes at Abraham. Sasha was able to stab him but not before he sounded the alarm. Chaos ensues and what remains of the Saviors, scurry away from the compound. Tara and Gabriel were able to put down that threat. The alarms bring out some walkers that Carol and Maggie need to deal with. Glenn and Heath find the armory and waste no time using some of its contents, gunning down with the surprise assistance from Jesus, their pursuers. The crisis looks to be adverted.

Back in Alexandria, we see Morgan soldering something but what it is, we don’t get to see. All we do see is Morgan breaking down crying after finishing it. The following day, Rick and the group get ready to leave the Compound when a member of Negan’s group attempts to escape on bike. Daryl is able to stop him and when Rick lowered his gun, a woman’s voice can be heard on a radio ordering Rick to lower his weapon. Rick orders them to come out and talk. The woman refuses but instead tells him that they “have a Carol and a Maggie.”  Let the chess match begin…
