SUPERGIRL: WELCOME TO EARTH RECAP

If you can’t have Superman, Wonder Woman or at least the woman who portrayed her in the 70’s is a wonderful replacement. Monday night’s episode of Supergirl “Welcome to Earth”, set into motion a greater story arc that could take us to season’s end. Warning, spoilers ahead…

After Mon-El breaks out of the DEO after disposing of Supergirl, she learns that President Marsdin (Lynda Carter) will be arriving at National City to sign the alien-amnesty act and much to Kara’s delight, wants to meet with Supergirl. No sooner as Air Force One arrived in National City, an assassination attempt against President Marsdin takes place from an unknown alien that Kara suspects was Mon-El.
NCPD Detective Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima) arrives at the airport to conduct her own investigation only to be stalled by Alex who pretends to be part of the Secret Service. The two exchange words but Sawyer backs down and walked away. The President arrives safely at the DEO to meet with Hank who expresses his concerns over the amnesty act much to the President’s surprise given that Hank has already revealed himself as the Martian Manhunter.
Kara is tasked by Snapper Carr to interview Lena Luthor regarding her stance on the amnesty act given that her brother Lex is the most famous anti-alien human on earth. Lena shows Kara a proto-type device that could detect which among them was an alien. This obviously concerns Kara who is asked by Lena to test out the device to see for herself. When Lena wasn’t looking, Kara uses her heat vision to knock out its sensors to mask her alien DNA.
Later that night, Alex meets up with Maggie at a dive bar that is more than what it appears to be. It turns out that the bar is an alien hangout for off-worlders. Think the cantina from Star Wars. Back at the DEO, Kara finds out Mon-El’s location and also discovers that he’s a Daxamite, a sister planet near Krypton. She takes off to confront him. This time she’s able to best him and brings him back to the DEO. She questions him able wanting to kill the President but he claims to not what she is talking about let alone what the word president means. He also tells her that he considers her and all Kryptonians his enemy.
At the amnesty signing, President Marsdin is once again attacked by a fire producing alien called Scorcher. This proves that Mon-El was not involved as originally thought by Kara.  Both Alex and Maggie clash with Scorcher as Kara protects the President. Maggie is later kidnapped by Scorcher who Alex recognizes from the bar the night before. Kara locates Scorcher as Alex tries to free Maggie.  Kara and Scorcher battle each other. Back and forth they go. Kara uses her freezing breath to slow down Scorcher but it doesn’t work. She then uses her super speed to drain Scorcher of her power just long enough to have a now freed Maggie knock her out.
With Scorcher now in custody and Maggie recovering at the DEO, President Marsdin signs into law the Alien-Amnesty act. As they say their good-byes, it is revealed to the viewers that Marsdin is an alien herself which doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Kara makes peace with Mon-El and she tells him of Daxam is a wasteland after the destruction of Krypton. It would appear that he is the last of his kind. That night, Hank decides to visit the alien bar and do so as the Martian Manhunter. There, the female bartender (Sharon Leal) seems to recognize him and promptly leaves. Hank follows her into the alley where she reveals herself to be the last daughter of Mars, M’gann M’orzz.
This was another solid episode with some interesting subplots brewing. A couple of nice side notes, I loved seeing Supergirl doing the Wonder Woman spin to put out the fire from her cape and nice touch having President Marsdin tell Kara that if she thinks Air Force One is cool, she should see her other jet. Job well done!
