THE WALKING DEAD: THE WELL RECAP

Sunday night’s episode of The Walking Dead called “The Well” brought a sense of levity after the gut wrenching events from the premiere. We get to see series favorites Carol and Morgan while being introduced to royalty. Warning, spoilers ahead…

The episode opens with Carol regaining consciousness and being helped by Morgan after being shot during her close encounter with one of the Saviors. Morgan delivers her to “The Kingdom”, a place similar to that of Alexandria. Morgan tells Carol where they are and that he wants to introduce her to King Ezekiel. When Carol does, she coyly remains quiet when she meets the King and his pet tiger named Shiva that lay by his side. Ezekiel welcomes Carol and she graciously accepts his comments. He metaphorically lets her know that if she drinks from the well she must replenish the well. He then offers her some fruit to which she respectfully declines. After the meeting, Carol states her intention of leaving regardless of Morgan’s new found utopia. Morgan tries to persuade her to reconsider and tells her that he would not let her die.
What appeared to be pigs being fed to walkers, the reality was that they were feeding on walkers. These “tainted” pigs are part of the weekly demands from the Saviors. The Saviors arrive to collect their meat and it doesn’t take long for Morgan to recognize who they are. After an exchange of words between members from both sides, a fight breaks out in which Ezekiel ask for them to stop for it’s not their way. The leader of the Saviors puts an end to the fight but warns Ezekiel that next week’s produce better be plentiful or Richard, the man involved in the fight, would be the first to die.

As promised, Morgan discovers that Carol is gone. As Carol makes her way out of “The Kingdom”, she is discovered by Ezekiel. The two sit and talk as Ezekiel questions how she could survive on her own while Carol questions him as just another ruler with an agenda and this place is just a fairy tale. Ezekiel opens up as to why the people follow him and he came to adopt Shiva after nursing her back to health and with it, her loyalty. Ezekiel tells Carol that even though bad exist, life isn’t all bad. He wants her to remain hopeful. As much as he wants her to stay, he respects her decision to leave.
With help from Morgan, Carol finds a home she could live in. Later, she gets a visit from Ezekiel and Shiva, bearing the same fruit that was offered to her earlier.
