DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW: RAIDERS OF THE LOST ART RECAP

When we last saw Rip Hunter, he was a directing a film in 1967 Los Angeles. Now, Damien Darhk and Malcolm Merlyn have created an aberration in their attempt to capture him. Warning, spoilers ahead…

The aptly named Legion of Doom (Darhk, Malcolm and Thawne) is after the Spear of Destiny that Rip is in possession of its fragments. When Darhk and Malcolm try to kidnap Rip, it would seem that Rip has no memories of his earlier life or his adventures. Now, Rip is a filmmaker, training a young up and coming film student named George Lucas. Yes, that George Lucas.

When an encounter between the Legends and the Legion occur, the excitement proves to be too intense for Lucas and he quits filmmaking altogether. This aberration in the timeline causes both Nate and Ray to lose their abilities because they were so heavily influenced by Lucas’ films like Star Wars and Indiana Jones. These films literally shaped who these men would later become.

Unknowingly Lucas has part of the spear and Darkh and Malcolm try once again to retrieve it from him. Nate, Ray and Amaya arrive to protect Lucas but end up in a trash compactor (sound familiar), setting up one of the funniest scenes I’ve seen, a nice homage to Star Wars. A battle ensues and the Legends recover the fragment of the spear but in the process Thawne kidnaps Rip. He threatens to have Rip tortured till he gives up the location of the other fragments.

This was a fun-filled episode with lots of winks to Lucas’ films. It shows just how important Lucas has been and continues to be for so many. As C-3PO would say, “thank the maker.”

May the Dork be with you,

James aka “The Dork Knight” is a blogger and writer based out of Upstate New York. For James, it all started with a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… when he dragged his mom to see The Empire Strikes Back 10 weeks in a row. He lives and breathes nerd culture. James is proof that a Star Wars fanatic can be a passionate Trekkie as well. So much so James dressed up as Captain Kirk to the premiere of Star Trek VI in 1991 and still has the uniform. When it comes to Comic Books, Sci-Fi or Fantasy whether in print or digital, in the theatre or on my TV screen, I’m all about it and I love it. So bring your Phaser (set to stun), Lightsaber, Sonic Screwdriver, a Wand, Mjolnir or the Ring to rule them all, because this site is for the dork in all of us.
