It’s the women of Riverdale who take center stage in the latest episode titled “Body Double”. As a cloud of suspicion follows Cheryl’s arrest, new information about her brother, Jason’s death is revealed. Warning, spoilers ahead…

Following her arrest, Cheryl comes clean about the last time she saw Jason alive. It doesn’t seem that she murdered her brother but to fake his death for reasons unknown at this time. Meanwhile, Archie tells the principal and sheriff about being at the river and hearing the gunshot but makes no mention of Miss Grundy being with him. Despite his intentions of protecting her and keeping their relationship a secret, Grundy decides to herself with him and suspends their music lessons together. As Archie deals with his latest female problem, Veronica becomes the center of a shaming scandal involving a football player, which happens to be the principal’s son, she had a date with and shared a kiss with.

Apparently Veronica is just one of many girls at the school who have had their names placed in a “shame book” and accessed a point total for each alleged conquest. One such girl was Polly Cooper, Betty’s sister who was placed there by Jason. Seems like Jason wasn’t so clean-cut as people were led to believe. Veronica seeks Betty’s help to try to expose these football players after Betty has taken interest in reviving the school newspaper along with Jughead who is doing his own investigation into Jason’s death.

In the end, Betty, Veronica and all those girls who had been shamed by members of the football team had been vindicated and all those responsible were kicked off the team. Their victory may end up being short-lived as the narration indicated that this event will have a negative impact on everyone in the weeks to follow. The closing scenes had the boy scout leader whom Jughead questioned earlier tells Jughead that he remembers seeing Miss Grundy’s car by the river on that fateful day of Jason’s murder.

Like any new series, it takes a few episodes to gain any kind of traction. This one accomplished just that and I’m all in for the rest of this season.
