MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD: “Self Control” RECAP

Wow! That’s the best way to describe the ending of the LMD storyline as we move forward to a new dynamic for Agents of SHIELD. Warning, spoilers ahead…

Since Agents of SHIELD started, I’ve been a defender of the series. Has it been perfect? Not even close. It’s not even the best Marvel series let alone comic book series when compared to what DC has put out. But Tuesday nights LMD storyline finale was one of SHIELD’s best to date. As we saw in the previous episode Coulson and most of his team had been replaced by LMDs who are all in on carrying out Ivanov’s plan to rid the world of Inhumans. They plan on doing so using an army of Johnson LMDs. The only issue, they have yet to overtake the real Daisy Johnson and scan her mind into the LMDs. Simmons is the only other team member not an LMD as overpowers and destroys the Fitz LMD.

Daisy finds Simmons and the two plan their escape from the base. They want to hack into the Framework system remotely to control their models inside the base and find the others. Daisy has to go through a gauntlet of adversaries of Mace, MacKenzie and Coulson LMDs. Although injured, she does over power them and reunites with Simmons who has recruited other SHIELD agents.  Just as they were about to make their escape, they get intercepted by May LMD. She was supposed to be the last line of defense but instead of fighting them, she lets them go. When Coulson LMD arrives to try to recapture Daisy and Simmons, May LMD detonates a large explosive destroying the base and every LMD inside.

Now free from the destroyed base, Daisy and Simmons were able to hack into the Framework from the Zephyr. But when Daisy wakes up the next morning, the world as she knew it was altered. In this new reality,  she is in a relationship with Ward (hinted at but not seen yet). Simmons is now dead, Fitz is some rich mogul and Mack’s daughter is still alive. As for Coulson and May, Coulson is a Anti-Inhuman teacher and May works for Hydra. Meanwhile, Aida creates an Ivanov LMD that is controlled by the severed head of the real Ivanov, so that the human emotions could be preserved and as Aida plans to upload to herself as well. If there was any negative to this cliffhanger is that it should have been the season finale and something to talk about and digest over the summer months ahead. Agents of SHIELD returns in April and one could only wonder what surprises the season finale will have if this one here was nothing short of outstanding.

May the Dork be with you,

James aka “The Dork Knight” is a blogger and writer based out of Upstate New York. For James, it all started with a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… when he dragged his mom to see The Empire Strikes Back 10 weeks in a row. He lives and breathes nerd culture. James is proof that a Star Wars fanatic can be a passionate Trekkie as well. So much so James dressed up as Captain Kirk to the premiere of Star Trek VI in 1991 and still has the uniform. When it comes to Comic Books, Sci-Fi or Fantasy whether in print or digital, in the theatre or on my TV screen, I’m all about it and I love it.
