THE FLASH: “The Once and Future Flash” RECAP

The Flash returned Tuesday night to begin its stretch run to the finale and there was a lot to take in and dissect. Warning, spoilers ahead…

Things are not going too well for Team Flash as they not only have to deal with an escaped Killer Frost, but Barry was preoccupied in stopping Savitar and decides to travel to 2024 to find out Savitar’s identity. Much Barry’s dismay, the future isn’t as bright as he had hoped. Yes, he had defeated Savitar but in this future, Iris is still dead, Wally was crippled, Cisco lost is vide powers thanks to Killer Frost shattering his hands, future Barry is recluse and the team was disbanded. Speaking of Killer Frost, she is in Iron Heights where Julian works and tends to her. H.R. has become of all things a novelist and Joe is in a depressed state of mind because future Barry broke his promise and abandoned him. As I said, a lot to take in and dissect.

With future Barry in retirement, rogues Scudder and Dillon had all but taken over Central City. Cisco uses a device to keep past Barry from leaving 2024 in hopes that he could restore the team once again and give hope back to not only them but Central City. Feeling responsible, Barry rounds up Julian, Joe and H.R. reuniting the team at STAR Labs. He apologizes to them for breaking his promise and ask for them to work together now. They agree and Team Flash is back.

Having heard Barry’s apology and pleas for help, Future Barry dons the costume once again and helps Barry defeat Scudder and Dillon using a device Cisco had created to negate their powers. After their victory, Future Barry tells Barry to find Tracy Brand. She was the one who ultimately solved how to defeat Savitar and trapping him in the speed force. Armed with this new knowledge and some hope for both the past and the future, Barry returns to 2017.

In the present, Killer Frost meets with Savitar, who makes her an offer she initially wanted to refuse, regarding eliminating Caitlin forever. However, that changes when Savitar reveals his true identity. Fade to black as we the audience don’t get to play along until probably next week.

A very good episode that continues to build towards what could be both an epic finale as well as a heartbreaking one.

May the Dork be with you,
