THE FUTURE OF WONDER WOMAN IN FILM

Yesterday I joined a comic book forum and posed the question: WHY DO YOU THINK IT’S SO HARD TO PUT A WONDER WOMAN FILM TOGETHER? True to form, comic book fans had strong opinions.

Opinions ranged from “Because she’s a female character in a male-dominated genre.” to “Comic book writers and readers alike have a hard time defining the character. Her costume is goofy looking in real life. And her rogues gallery is terrible.” Interesting opinions to say the least. Another common thought or should I say concern is on how much Warner Brothers is relying on the success or failure of Man of Steel to further its future projects. It’s as if the critical and economic success that the Dark Knight trilogy had wasn’t enough to show them that with the right story, right casting and the right director, fans are eager to see their heroes come to life on the big screen.

To say that female leads can’t be box office gold is nonsense. Maybe, the future of Wonder Woman should not be left to the men of Warner, perhaps an established female director should take it over. Does anyone have Kathryn Bigelow’s number?

James aka “The Dork Knight” is a blogger and writer based out of Upstate New York. For James, it all started with a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… when he dragged his mom to see The Empire Strikes Back 10 weeks in a row. He lives and breathes nerd culture. James is proof that a Star Wars fanatic can be a passionate Trekkie as well. So much so James dressed up as Captain Kirk to the premiere of Star Trek VI in 1991 and still has the uniform. When it comes to Comic Books, Sci-Fi or Fantasy whether in print or digital, in the theatre or on my TV screen, I’m all about it and I love it. So bring your Phaser (set to stun), Lightsaber, Sonic Screwdriver, a Wand, Mjolnir or the Ring to rule them all, because this site is for the dork in all of us.
