STAR WARS BEYOND EPISODE 7

We all know by now that Star Wars Episode VII is slated for 2015 and that J.J. Abrams will be at the helm. We also know that Disney would like to create a new trilogy. What happens after EP7 is still up in the air. There is talk of stand alone films featuring Han Solo and one with Boba Fett. So the question is, do they look into the expanded universe for ideas or do they move forward with a new set of characters to introduce to a fan base that could either embrace them (think Darth Maul) or reject them (think Jar Jar Binks)?

In my opinion, as long as the characters are strong and stays true to the Star Wars universe the fans will welcome them. I think it would be pretty cool to see the early days of the Old Republic, the early days of the Sith and the Jedi. There is a wealth of material that has gone well beyond the vision of George Lucas.
I know there are those who worry that the legacy of Star Wars would be diluted if more films are made. I disagree. Before the much maligned prequels came out, there was the god awful Christmas special prior to The Empire Strikes Back, the Ewok TV films after Return of the Jedi and the not so “special” special editions of the original trilogy. Han shot first George. Always did, always will. So with all that, Star Wars has endured and will continue to do so. Keep in mind. the animated series The Clone Wars enjoyed a successful five season run on the Cartoon Network. Some good has come after 1983.
Come this May, Star Wars will be celebrating 36 years. I look forward to the future in any and all mediums be it novels, comics or animation. Star Wars has had the single greatest influence on my creative life. I can still remember recreating the entire film verbatim of The Empire Strikes Back with my action figures. Those were fun times. Here is to another 36 years of a galaxy far far away.
Until then…
May the Dork be with you,

James aka “The Dork Knight” is a blogger and writer based out of Upstate New York. For James, it all started with a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… when he dragged his mom to see The Empire Strikes Back 10 weeks in a row. He lives and breathes nerd culture. James is proof that a Star Wars fanatic can be a passionate Trekkie as well. So much so James dressed up as Captain Kirk to the premiere of Star Trek VI in 1991 and still has the uniform. When it comes to Comic Books, Sci-Fi or Fantasy whether in print or digital, in the theatre or on my TV screen, I’m all about it and I love it.
