ARROW RECAP: BIRDS OF PREY

So, the highly anticipated teaming of the Black Canary and The Huntress was far less than advertised. Aside from some very well choreographed sparring, between the two who will make up two-thirds of the famed Birds of Prey, not much more can be said. Which, makes this episode slightly disappointing.

The Black Canary and The Huntress
That’s not to say that the episode was a complete bust, because it wasn’t. I would say it was incomplete at best. Some of the highlights was Ollie calling Roy by Thea’s nickname, Speedy. In which Roy didn’t take to kindly to. Then there was the name dropping of mobster Hugo Mannheim. What makes that significant is that Mannheimis part of Superman’s lore and not Green Arrow’s. Not sure where they’re headed with this but I like it.
One of the funniest and best moments of the night was when Quentin starts to call the Arrow while Oliver is standing next to him and Ollie’s phone rings. For a brief moment the cop in Quentin was about to make a connection but Ollie debunked that. For how much longer can he keep his identity a secret from Quentin remains to be seen.
And lastly, we have Slade Wilson. Not only does he end up kidnapping Thea at the end of the episode. We also learn that on the island five years ago he is the one responsible for all the scars on Oliver’s body. Including, “marking” him with the tattoo that belonged to his beloved Shado. Who’s death, he holds Oliver solely responsible for and has sought revenge ever since.
This all leads up to next week’s showdown episode as season two starts to reach its climax. A little Brother Blood, a little Deathstroke, a little Black Canary and a lot of Arrow makes for great fun. Stay tuned.
May the Dork be with you,
