DVD REVIEW: BATMAN UNLIMITED: ANIMAL INSTINCTS

As a fan of DC’s Animated Film Universe, the only issue I’ve had in recent years was it’s adult nature. It’s been harder to share some of these with children. This is what makes Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts a departure from the recent New 52 wave of films, a welcome addition. When Gotham City is terrorized by a quartet of animal-inspired villains (Cheetah, Killer Croc, Man-Bat & Silverback), Batman along with Nightwing, Red Robin, Green Arrow and The Flash investigate who is the puppet-master behind these crimes. The Caped Crusaders investigation leads him to Oswald Cobblepot AKA The Penguin.

This movie is very kid friendly. It reminds me a lot of the underrated animated series, Batman: Brave and the Bold. The quality of the animation is bright and perfect. The dialogue is both witty and age appropriate. Whether you’re a parent who has been looking for a film to share with the kids, or a fan who simply wants something lighter to watch, look no further than Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts.

James aka “The Dork Knight” is a blogger and writer based out of Upstate New York. For James, it all started with a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… when he dragged his mom to see The Empire Strikes Back 10 weeks in a row. He lives and breathes nerd culture. James is proof that a Star Wars fanatic can be a passionate Trekkie as well. So much so James dressed up as Captain Kirk to the premiere of Star Trek VI in 1991 and still has the uniform. When it comes to Comic Books, Sci-Fi or Fantasy whether in print or digital, in the theatre or on my TV screen, I’m all about it and I love it. So bring your Phaser (set to stun), Lightsaber, Sonic Screwdriver, a Wand, Mjolnir or the Ring to rule them all, because this site is for the dork in all of us.
