Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem is the second straight to video film based on the popular toy line following Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts. This time around, it’s Halloween in Gotham and a crime spree is sweeping across the city. Behind these crimes is a rogue gallery of villains consisting of Scarecrow, Clayface, Silver Banshee and Solomon Grundy. Things get complicated for Batman and company when he finds out that the one behind the rogues is The Joker himself. It’s up to the Caped Crusader with the help of Green Arrow, Nightwing, Red Robin and Cyborg to try and restore order in Gotham.
Much like its predecessor, Animal Instincts, Monster Mayhem is very kid friendly. These series of films is very light-hearted and a bit over the top but when you think of whom the target audience is and what served as the inspiration, it’s completely understandable. As for the story itself, it’s a notch below Animal Instincts but enjoyable nonetheless. I would recommend this to any parent who wants to introduce their child to the world of DC Animation and not have to worry about some of the adult content that has been present with DC’s recent releases.
