Tuesday night’s special Dawn of the Justice League hosted by Kevin Smith and Geoff Johns gave us a glimpse into the DC Cinematic Universe. Yes, I said DC Cinematic Universe. This is something most comic book fans thought they would never see due to Warner Brother’s lack of vision in creating one in the past. To be fair, the TV universe is a homerun led by Arrow and The Flash. It has continued with both Gothamand Supergirl. Now, the focus is set on bringing some of the industries greatest heroes to life on the big screen. It all starts in March with the highly anticipated Batman V Superman starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill. It is a sequel of sorts to Man of Steel but I like to look at it as a launching point for the future of DC.
The highlights of the special:
Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) according to Geoff Johns was inspired by early renditions of the character that first appeared in the comics.
Doomsday is obviously in it and serves as one of the villains. Perhaps there is more than just Doomsday and Lex to deal with.
We were introduced to Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash and Ray Fisher as Cyborg. But how significant their roles will be is unknown and I guess we’ll have to wait till March.
Clips of the Wonder Woman solo film starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine as Steve Trevor will be an origin story set in World War I. The clips that were shown look amazing and if you weren’t excited about Gal being the Amazon Princess, I believe you will after seeing these clips. She looks amazing.
The biggest news of the special dealt with Green Lantern and the Green Lantern Corps. Yes, Virginia the Green Lantern is coming back to the big screen and will be part of the Justice League. Who will play the character and which version are yet to be determined.
And finally, there was also some talk about the upcoming Suicide Squad film due out in August. The characters look great and Jared Leto as Joker may be the most menacing yet. As a bonus we got an exclusive look at the latest trailer set to the music of Bohemian Rhapsody.
Great special that gets me very pumped for the future of DC. While Marvel has an incredible head start when it comes to a Cinematic Universe of films, DC and its wonderful collection of iconic characters should give them a run for their box office money. And the real winners will be us… the fans.
May the Dork be with you,
