THE WALKING DEAD: TWICE AS FAR RECAP

Sunday night’s The Walking Dead titled “Twice As Far” was the proverbial calm before the Negan storm that’s set to hit in the next two weeks. This is not to say it didn’t have its moments of humor, desperation or even death. It had all of the above. Warning, spoilers ahead…

There were some nice scenes to start the episode with, in particular between Carol and Daryl. These two fan favorites share Carol’s feelings on no longer wanting to kill. The close call from last week’s events coupled with everything these survivors have been forced to go through has taken its toll on her. We learn that the Saviors know where Alexandria is and we can only imagine what that may lead to. Rick has a brief appearance questioning Morgan’s need to build a prison. Basically, Morgan is looking for alternatives. If you’ve read The Walking Dead, this is definitely a foreshadowing of things to come.

Two separate teams go out scouting. One team is Abraham and Eugene and the other is Daryl, Rosita and Denise. For both Eugene and Denise, it gives them the opportunity to explore life outside the walls of Alexandria. Denise in particular needed to spread her wings as she expressed guilt over not going out on patrol with Tara in the past. As for Eugene, he has longed been thought of as “the cowardly lion” of the group. Practically afraid of his own shadow. It was interesting the pairing with Abraham given the falling out they had awhile back when Eugene lied about having a cure. Things don’t get much better between the two when Abraham killed a walker that Eugene was having problems with after he had called “dibs”. Abraham decided to leave Eugene behind telling him to find his own way home.

As for Daryl, Rosita and Denise, they were able to find much needed medical supplies. Later Denise found herself battling and killing a walker when trying to retrieve a cooler that contained Orange Crush that she wanted to bring back for Tara. At first Daryl and Rosita were furious that she would risk her life for nothing. Denise begins to lecture both of them but before she could finish, an arrow pierces her eye killing her. A gang led by Dwight emerge from the tree line with a captured Eugene. Things look bad for Daryl and Rosita as they are sadly outnumbered. With Abraham hiding behind some barrels, Eugene saw this as an opportunity and “ratted” out Abraham. With their attention now on Abraham, Eugene used this time to took a bite out of Dwight’s crotch. This distraction gave Daryl, Rosita and Abraham the chance to fight back. They were able to seize the moment.

The episode closed with a letter that Carol left for Tobin stating that she was leaving and didn’t want to be followed. She wanted everyone to respect her wishes. With only two episodes left, what will be the ramifications of Carol’s departure? How will Team Alexandria react? More importantly, how will Rick and Daryl react? Should make for a great finish to an already strong season.
May the Dork be with you,
