The long awaited crossover between Supergirl and The Flash took place Monday night and much like all the previous crossovers between The Flash and Arrow, this one was a lot of fun. The tone was lighter but the delivery was still very satisfying. Warning, spoilers ahead…
Last week’s episode ended with Siobhan discovering her sound wave power that broke her fall when she fell off a rooftop. Now, she’s at the DEO thanks to Winn, being tested. The results are, that she is very much human and not an alien. The lack of answers doesn’t settle well with Siobhan who storms off. But before she does so, she spots Livewire who was being interrogated by Lucy Lane. She overhears Livewire talk about Supergirl and Cat Grant and decides that they have a common enemy.
Later, Siobhan gets another vision of the banshee and decides to head back to CatCo and confront Cat Grant. Winn does his best to stop her from making a mistake but is tossed aside by Siobhan. Kara then tries to reason with her but Siobhan’s sound wave knocks Kara unconscious and sends her flying out the window. Lucky for Kara, the arrival of The Flash comes at the right time as he races up the side of the building and saves her. He brings all the way to the middle of nowhere before coming to stop.
Fully conscious, Kara takes flight much to the surprise of Barry. Barry then races after her and Kara notices his incredible speed below. When she catches up to him, they question each other and have wonderful exchange about the Green Arrow, Zoom, Black Canary, to name a few, all of whom Kara doesn’t recognize who they are. Barry soon realizes that he is on the wrong earth and needs to figure out a way back home.
Back at CatCo, Winn and Jimmy walk in on Kara and Barry as they get to know each other. Winn takes to Barry very easily and has a general understanding regarding the concept of the multiverse. Jimmy, not so much as he appears jealous of another superhero in town. Before they can figure out the best way to help Barry, Kara is summoned to Cat’s office where she shows Kara a picture of The Flash in action. She wants the team to get to work on this new superhero in town. Cat even goes as far as referring to The Flash as the Blur, a nice nod to the CW show Smallville.
Siobhan continues to search for answers by visiting a magic shop owned by her Aunt Sinead. Sinead tells her about how the women of their family were cursed by banshee. Their powerful scream stems from being wronged by someone. To free them of this curse, they must kill the person who had wronged them. Siobhan’s attention turns to Kara and seeks Livewire’s help just in case Supergirl interferes. Sounds like a plan. She then proceeds to break Livewire out of the DEO. As she put it, “the enemy of my enemy is my partner.”
Kara learns of Livewire’s escape and immediately asks for Barry’s help. Together they go to the DEO and see Lucy Lane. Barry’s able to track Livewire to a warehouse and he and Supergirl head over to confront her. Barry uses lightning to try and take her down but it only made her stronger and she zaps him. Siobhan appears in full Silver Banshee look and her piercing scream disorients Supergirl who recognizes that it’s Siobhan under the makeup. Supergirl and The Flash do their best to hold them off but the duo proves to be too strong at the moment to defeat, so they leave. Livewire and Silver Banshee later arrive at CatCo and kidnap Cat so she can be used as a pawn to lure Supergirl and The Flash to a park in order to save Cat and continue their battle.
With Cat handcuffed to a bench, Supergirl and The Flash arrive and immediately Silver Banshee uses her power scream to try and bring them down but fail to do so because they’re wearing earplugs. The Flash goes after Livewire while Supergirl deals with Silver Banshee. Barry gets knocked out by Liverwire who joins Silver Banshee to double team Kara. A crowd of spectators watch on as Supergirl battles both women. Livewire spots a helicopter overheard and decides to use it against the gathering crowd. Supergirl flies in front of it, willing to sacrifice herself to save the innocent people below. Now weakened, the crowd surrounds Supergirl in order to protect her. Livewire doesn’t understand how they hated her one day and now want to protect her. Either way, she plans on killing all of them. A large stream of water hits Livewire and she loses control and hits Silver Banshee instead and they both go down for the count. The water comes from a firehose operated by the very firemen who Supergirl helped prior to be exposed to red kryptonite. This time, it was their turn to help her in her hour of need. The Flash finally arrives and realizes that the fight is over.
With the supervillains now incarcerated after Barry shows them how to deal with metahumans, life at National City turns to normal. It was later revealed that Cat knew all along that Barry was The Flash stating her keen instincts to discover anyone who pretends to be normal will found out by her.
Barry and Kara have one more moment together as Barry explains that if they both run at their fastest speed, they can create a breach in which she can throw him forward and Barry can return home. The two superheroes embrace, run and Kara flings him into the breach. Let’s hope their paths will cross again soon.
Taking Barry’s parting advice regarding Jimmy, Kara invites Jimmy over to the apartment and decides to take a leap of faith and kiss him. Jimmy’s reaction isn’t what Kara was expecting. He has a blank expression and stares out into space. He’s in a trace state of mind as he exits Kara’s apartment. Kara follows him and sees that more people are in a similar state. She rushes to the window and sees the entire city walking in unison. We then cut to see Non. He is pleased that Astra’s plan with the use of the myriad is in full effect. Fade to black.
I love what the TV universe has done for DC. What Marvel has created on the big screen, DC has been able to accomplish here on the small screen. Now if only those running the TV properties could run the DC Cinematic Universe, all would be right with the world.
May the Dork be with you,
