Even before Sunday’s premiere of Once Upon a Time was over, the Internet was abuzz with Oncers questioning Emma Swan’s (Jennifer Morrison) future? Warning, spoilers ahead…
The sixth season titled appropriately enough called, “The Savior” begs the question of who saves the savior? Emma has longed been viewed as the savior but during Sunday night’s episode she experienced visions of a fight against a mysterious hooded being that doesn’t end well for her. Emma encounters a young woman, a former oracle that reveals some staggering details about her future. The young woman tells Emma that no matter what she does to alter the course she is on, she will die. To say this type of dooming revelation has put a strain on her and Hook.

Besides the struggles that Emma has to face, much of the opener focused on Rumple as he traveled to the Temple of Morpheus in order to free Belle from Pandora’s Box. Morpheus helps Rumple enter Belle’s dreams and recreate the moment the two fell in love. It was great scene that shows just how much Rumple loves Belle and with the music of Beauty and the Beast playing in the background, made the scene that much more special. However, the scene was short lived when Morpheus reveals himself to be Belle and Rumple’s unborn son. He wanted his mother to know that Rumple’s broken promises will only cause her grief ad heartache. Belle heeds her son’s warning and tells Rumple that she will not share a home with him when they return to Storybrooke. Will Morpheus continue to play a role in his parent’s lives and how will Rumple deal with his son?
Finally, after going through an emotional roller-coaster, Zelena returns home to see the Evil Queen waiting for her. What will these “evil” sisters cook up for Regina, Snow and the others? Especially, after Regina blamed Zelena for Robin’s death. Other things of note, we’re introduced in the opening scene to Aladdin and Jafar with Jafar stating that a saviors story never has a happy ending. Is this prelude to things to come? That is something we’ll have to wait and see. Would the creators do the unthinkable and remove such a beloved character in Emma Swan? I would doubt the show would survive such a bold move but with one episode in, we’re already emotionally invested on how this will all go down for our savior.
May the Dork be with you,
