Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) and his daughter Jesse (Violett Beane) return to Earth-1 and the effects of the Flashpoint paradox continues to haunt Barry in the latest episode of The Flash called “Magenta”. Warning, spoilers ahead…
Alchemy is proving to be a very formidable villain even though he has yet to really go toe-to-toe with The Flash. Instead, Alchemy uses minions to cause chaos for Team Flash to repair. Such is the case with Frankie Kane/Magneta (Joey King) who has as the name would suggest, has magnetic powers and I think is more frightening in this incarnation than the source material that inspired it and it turns out to be for the better.
But the real story here is the new speedster in town, Wells’ daughter, Jesse who’s dubbed by her dad as Jesse Quick. It was fun seeing Jesse and her new found speed team up with Barry to take down Magneta. I can’t help but think of Kara from Supergirl and youthful enthusiasm she had when she took on her heroic persona to take down the bad guys. I see the day when Jesse Quick makes an appearance in National City.
It is nice having Tom Cavanagh return as Wells. It gives the show the fatherly balance that both he and Joe bring to the team. We saw some shining moments of this when Wells took to task Barry’s interference of the timeline as well as Joe dealing with Wally’s obvious disappointment and envy of not acquiring the speed that Jesse contacted even though they were both hit with the dark matter last season. Both have a different way of doing things but both command respect from the younger members of the team who look to each for guidance and approval.
We all know from the comics that Wally will become Kid Flash. We’ve already seen teases of that during the Flashpoint premiere. I’m more than positive that we’ll see more of Wally as Kid Flash as the season progresses. The question isn’t when, it’s more like how and who. How will Wally gain his speed and who will be responsible for giving it to him?
May the Dork be with you,
