Aladdin is missing and Princess Jasmine wants to find him and so does Emma Swan in the latest episode of Once Upon A Timecalled “Street Rats”. Warning, spoilers ahead…
Aladdin is considered a savior and that makes Emma anxious to assist Jasmine in finding him in hopes that he could help her with her visions that end with her death. The episode opens in Agrabah many many years ago with Jafar turning common thieves into literal street rats. Aladdin is recruited by Jasmine to steal a magical weapon called “the Diamond in the Rough” that could defeat Jafar and save her father the Sultan.
Aladdin finds the gem balancing on a sword and in a very Indiana Jones way, replaces it with another object to maintain the swords balance. However, the surrounding columns start to crumble and in that moment, Aladdin uses magic to save Jasmine and himself from harm. Jasmine determines that it is Aladdin who was the actual Diamond in the Rough instead. Jasmine presents him with a gift, a scarab. Afterwards, Jafar appears showing him a faulty future that ends with his untimely death. He presents him with a pair of golden shears that would allow Aladdin to return to a normal life.
Jafar returns to the castle and imprisons Jasmine in an hourglass only to have Aladdin fly in on a magic carpet and saving the day and embracing his destiny as The Savior.
Back in present day Storybrooke, Emma and Archie discover the dead body of the Oracle and find Jasmine who goes by the name Shirin in the process. She later reveals herself to be Jasmine and Emma, Snow and Charming believe she’s innocent. Jasmine states her intentions of finding Aladdin and refers to him as a Savior, which intrigues Emma.
When Archie returns to his office, the Evil Queen is sitting waiting for him. When he refuses to discuss Emma with her, she uses her magic to transform herself into looking like Archie. She ties up the real Archie and keeps him in Zelena’s house where she later discovers but decides to not help him. In her new identity, the Evil Queen learns that Aladdin is another savior and confronts Emma in front of everyone about the secret she has been keeping from them. At this point, Emma has no choice to tell them about her visions and potential ill fate. She even speculates that Regina may be the one under the head that kills her.
Later, Regina creates a potion that would help Emma locate Aladdin. Regina, Henry, Hook and Jasmine follow Emma to a crypt where it would appear that Aladdin had died as Jasmine recognizes the scarab she gave him long ago. Emma is worried about her fate but refuses to give up after talking to Henry who blames himself for bringing Emma to Storybrooke in the first place. Aladdin then appears to both them admitting that he had planted the scarab to throw them off his trail.
He tells Emma about the shears and how he ended up using them and how it doomed Agrabah. He then gives them to her to decide whether or not she wants to use them someday. Emma and Henry convince Aladdin to find Jasmine. When he does, they embrace. Jasmine begs Aladdin to help her defend Agrabah but Aladdin has to explain what had happened with those shears. Speaking of which, Emma gives the shears to Hook to bury them. He tells her that he did but he lied as it is shown that he has them inside his jacket.
