For us it’s been a few weeks but for Rick and the others, it’s only been three days. So when Negan shows up to collect, it puts everyone on edge. Warning, spoilers ahead…
Negan and his Saviors with a muted Daryl arrive at Alexandria a few days earlier than expected and look to take “half” of what they have. Rick who is trying to keep his people alive and feels responsible for the predicament they’re in now allows Negan to do whatever if it means no one else need die. In a symbolic show of his power, Negan allows Rick to hold on to “Lucille” while he oversees the raiding of Alexandria. As a viewer, you want to see Rick use the bat on Negan but the consequences of such a hasty act albeit satisfying, would be short lived.
Negan and Co. take their furniture, medicine and all of their weapons. The only thing they don’t take is their food because as Negan stated, he needs wants them to work for him and they need to be fed. As this is happening, Rick gathers the survivors and tells them that he is no longer in charge. In order to survive, they must learn to live by Negan’s rules. Many express their disappointment with Rick most notably Spencer who had been hiding guns as well as food from the others.
The biggest surprise of Sunday night’s “Service” episode was the reveal by Rick to Michonne that Judith isn’t his daughter, its Shane’s. Many have wondered but now we know. Make no mistake, regardless of DNA, he’s her father and he will do what is necessary to protect her and give her a future like he would for Carl. He shows Michonne that he still has a lot to lose and that’s why he allows Negan to call the shots. It’s tough to see how emasculating Negan treats Rick but understand why Rick, for now, takes it.
The episode ends with Rosita showing up at Eugene’s with a shell casing and asks him to make her a bullet. This war has only just begun.
