Regina visits her old castle and sees Rumple imprisoned. He makes a deal with her that if she sets him free he’ll help her return home with Emma. But in order to achieve that, she needs to embrace being evil once again. Regina complies and in order to bring the savior out of Emma, she kidnaps Snow and Charming. Emma arrives at the castle but instead of fighting Regina, she decides to turn over the kingdom to the Queen. Regina even goes as far as taking the hearts of Emma’s parents and crushing them. Still, Emma would not fight. However, Henry who had just been anointed a knight arrives and challenges Regina for what she had done to his grandparents. Regina refuses to fight Henry and was willing to sacrifice herself. When Henry lundges his sword towards Regina, it stops in mid flight by Emma. The Savior had returned.
Regina and Emma arrived at the designated meeting place where Rumple had instructed. There they meet up with Rumple and true to his word, he honors his deal by giving Regina a magic bean that will transport herself and Emma back to their reality and Storybrooke. As luck would have it, just as the portal opens up that would allow them to return home, an arrow streaks across the screen and it’s Robin Hood (Sean Maguire). Seeing Robin, who is trying to rob them, Regina is taken aback and nearly breaks down. Her reaction to Robin delays their return and Emma refuses to leave without her. Unfortunately for both, the portal disappears before they can leave. What now? We’ll have to wait and see.
Meanwhile back in Storybrooke…
When Rumple discovers that he cannot locate his son, he visits Belle to seek her help. Rumple and Belle soon learn that the Black Fairy aka Rumple’s mom has kidnapped their son, they realize they need to work together in order to save their son. With Jasmine and Aladdin set to return to Agrabah, the Evil Queen seems to be defeated. Her story however continues when the mysterious hooded figure from Emma’s dream shows up in Storybrooke and transformed the Evil Queen into a caged cobra. I guess Charming’s wish for her to get what she deserves has come to pass. The hooded individual reveals himself to be the adult child of Belle and Rumple. Things are going to get even more complicated for our fairy tale town.
This was a great winter finale led by both Jennifer Morrison and Lana Parrilla. The ending with Robin Hood reminds us just how much Regina herself has lost. Once Upon a Time returns in March 2017.
