ARROW: WINTER FINALE RECAP

This 5th season of Arrow has been at a crossroads. Much of it thus far has been about rebuilding but it’s pacing throughout has felt inconsistent at best. The winter finale, “What we leave behind” did a lot to correct it. Warning, spoilers ahead…

Prometheus strikes again and this time, there’s collateral damage and some help from Evelyn who had betrayed Team Arrow. First he attacks Curtis and injects him with a tuberculosis vaccine that was developed by Justin Claybourne. Claybourne was a corrupt pharmaceutical manufacturer that happened to be on the infamous “list” that Oliver used to clean up the former Starling City.  Through a series of flashbacks we see Oliver kill Claybourne.

Billy conducts his own investigation into Prometheus, he gets captured but not before sending Felicity information regarding Claybourne’s illegitimate son. Oliver vows to find Prometheus and save Billy. He’s convinced that Prometheus must be hiding at one of Claybourne’s former buildings.  When Oliver tracks down and believes he has killed Prometheus, he discovers that he had actually killed Billy instead. The real Prometheus, as a trap to setup Oliver, had gagged Billy. Now Oliver is left with the terrible task of telling Felicity and the others what has happened.

The final scenes show Felicity mourning over the loss of Billy, Curtis’ husband leaving him and Diggle being recaptured by the military. Oliver’s world has been turned upside down and when he arrives back at Team Arrow’s lair, he finds Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) alive and well.

The winter finale was a great way to end what has been a mediocre season thus far. Questions obviously remain as to Prometheus’ true identity, Evelyn’s role in all this, Diggle’s future and of course the biggest question, how is Laurel alive? Arrow will return in January 2017.

May the Dork be with you,
