GOTHAM: GHOSTS RECAP

Gotham returned Monday night with a similar theme for two of its characters in the episode “Ghosts”. Warning, spoilers ahead…

Both Jim Gordon and Penguin have targets on their backs for similar reasons, the direct cause of someone’s death. For Jim, it’s the death of Mario, Don Falcone’s son and Lee’s husband. As you may recall, Mario was infected with the blood of Mad-Hatters sister much like Barnes had been. Jim saw no alternative but to kill him. That’s debatable at best. Falcone with the urging of Lee did put out a hit on Jim and he spent a good portion of the episode dodging bullets from the returning Zsasz. After visiting Barnes at Arkham and seeing the insanity that has overtaken him, Lee has a change of heart and ask Falcone to call off the hit on Jim in which he surprising complies. A little out of character for Falcone although he admits to caring for Jim more than Mario. Definitely a bizarre way to wrap up this plot-line in the story.

Speaking of bizarre, we have Penguin and the beginning stages of Edward Nigma’s mind games to drive Oswald insane following the death of Isabella. Edward uses Clayface to impersonate Oswald’s dead father (Paul Reubens) to get into his psyche which by the end, he had started to unravel. Unlike the Jim-Lee-Falcone storyline that wrapped up too fast and without incident, this one between Oswald and Edward should linger on for the remainder of the season and perhaps longer. This is especially true with Barbara entering the mix and helping Ed with his revenge.

The saving grace if you will, would be the pending return of Jerome. It remains to be seen whether Jerome will evolve into the Joker as many has speculated. Regardless, his return should at the very least make things insanely interesting in Gotham.

May the Dork be with you,
