When a white Martian descends on National City to take M’gann back to Mars for punishment, it’s up to J’onn J’onzz to protect her. Warning, spoilers ahead…
Last week I mentioned how exciting it could be for an all out Martian smack down. When I saw the title of the episode “The Martian Chronicles”, only furthered that excitement. However, that potential was short-lived with this one and done entry. With that said, this episode did offer up some of the finest action scenes from the series yet.
A couple of White Martians have arrived in National City to retrieve M’gann. One of them happens to be her estranged husband, Armek (Terrell Tilford). This is where I think the writers made a mistake. Armek posed a real threat to not only M’gann but to J’onn as well. This was also a missed opportunity to see what the White Martians are like. Here, we only get a glimpse and the fight between M’gann and J’onn versus Armek was very well done which makes you wish there was more to come.
Not much in terms of a bigger story arc present here. There is the continued “should they or shouldn’t they” love story between Kara and Mon-El but otherwise it was fairly quiet between them. Instead there was some sisterly drama revolving around Kara’s earth birthday and wanting to spend time with Alex who has spent most of her free time with Maggie. In the end it was much to do about nothing and sisters come to an understanding. As I said, the episode itself was both very good and somewhat sad as we say goodbye (at least for the foreseeable future) to M’gann as she returns to her home world of Mars.
Without saying the words and only through their performances, both David Harewood as J’onn and Sharon Leal as M’gann show how much affection they had for one another which makes her decision to leave that much harder for to the two of them.
Next week we get a taste of the Luthor’s, now that should make things very interesting.
May the Dork be with you,
