ARROW: “Bratva” RECAP

From Russia with Love, no, I’m not talking about James Bond but the latest episode of Arrow called “Bratva”. Things are not warm and fuzzy as Oliver, Felicity and Team Arrow arrive in Russia to meet up with Anatoly, Oliver’s old friend. Warning, spoilers ahead…

Oliver takes the team to Russia after word of Walker making a deal with Chechen terrorists. At first Anatoly refuses to help Oliver unless he does something in return for him but Oliver declines. When Felicity and John blackmail and kidnap a Russian analyst for information, John goes a bit too far with his torture methods that it forces Oliver to eventually accept Anatoly’s offer. Oliver does not want to see what once happened to him with that thirst for vengeance consumes both his friends.

Oliver, Team Arrow along with Dinah (the new Black Canary) and the Bratva take out a rival Anatoly and spoil Walker’s deal and is later arrested by the Military Police. In order to contain the nuclear blast, Rory uses his rags to harness its destructive powers. Later he tells Felicity that he needs to leave the team for the time being because his rags do not work anymore. How much of this is true, remains to be seen.

A couple of side notes from Wednesday’s Arrow. One is the welcome return of Quentin Lance. Paul Blackthorne is a wonderful actor and his presence makes the Oliver and company that much better. Then there is Susan Williams (Carly Pope) who earlier slept with Oliver and was pressing him to talk about his time on the island and what happened to him afterwards. We see her having a private meeting where a photo of Oliver from five years ago in Russia with Anatoly as well as a picture of a hooded vigilante called “the archer” from that same time. She deduces that this isn’t merely a coincidence but that the likelihood is that Oliver and the Green Arrow is one of the same.
