As far as episodes go about bad guys (or in this case bad girls), “Sin Eater” was less than stellar. As far as good drama revolving around the mysterious Prometheus, Oliver’s past catching up to him and Thea acting more like mother Moira Queen and you have a winning recipe for success. Warning, spoilers ahead…
It was a tale of two episodes. During a prison transfer, the trio of Chien, Carrie and Warner escape and the guards in the process. Oliver and Quentin corner the trio but they escape again thanks to ACU’s arrival. Their untimely arrival is due to Pike receiving evidence that the Green Arrow killed Detective Malone. Oliver suspects Prometheus was the one who supplied this evidence against him. A manhunt against the Green Arrow ensues. Seeing no other choice, Oliver sees Pike and tells him of the cover-up about Malone’s death and the Green Arrow’s innocence. Pike is suspicious but takes Oliver’s opinions under advisement.
As good as Oliver is at protecting his secret identity, it’s becoming increasing difficult. Susan confronts Oliver and ask him outright if he was indeed the Green Arrow which he denies. Felicity and Thea hack into Susan’s computer to see what evidence she has on Oliver and discover the time he spent in Russia and how a masked vigilante much like the Green Arrow was also in Russia at the same time. Thea has Felicity discredit Susan by showing that she has plagiarized her work. This leads to Susan’s firing. When Oliver finds out about this, he confronts Thea and although she was apologetic, Oliver believes that she knew what she was doing regardless of the consequences. He’s worried that Thea is becoming more like their mother Moira and that concerns him.
The finale of “Sin Eaters” has Team Arrow intercepting the trio who were stealing money from a stash left by Church. The ACU also arrive to arrest them and that allow Team Arrow to go free. For the time being the manhunt is no more but when word of a cover-up was leaked to the press, Oliver fears that this could be the end of his time as Mayor with a potential impeachment looming.
Overall, this was a mixed bag of an episode. Very ho-hum on the villains of the week but shifting momentum against Oliver saves this outing and makes you wonder who exactly is Prometheus.
