This week’s Star Wars Rebels took a break from the cat and mouse games between the Ghost Crew and the Empire and instead gave us a little odd placed comic relief with the droids AP-5 and Chopper leading the way. Warning, spoilers ahead…
Accompanying the droids in this adventure, is Wedge Antilles. Normally I don’t mind nor is it unexpected to have what I refer to as a throwaway episode that does very little to nothing at all to further the overall story-arc for the season. But the timing of this episode feels out-of-place. There were some finny exchanges between AP-5 and Chopper and we did get to see a darker side of Chopper when the Imperials were able mess with the little droid to find the rebels and their hidden base. Dark Chopper was a nice surprise as was the addition of Josh Gad voicing an Imperial officer, “The Controller”.
The overall premise was having AP-5, Chopper and Wedge infiltrate an Imperial station and steal codes beneficial to the alliance. But when “The Controller” is able to turn Chopper against the others, chaos ensues. The chaos was pretty minimal in hindsight and the droids were able to get the codes they needed. The biggest surprise was seeing the vicious side of Hera when she overloads the Imperial ships computers and the ship blows up killing all on board. Moral of the story, do not mess with Hera’s droid.
May the Dork be with you,
