The long-awaited showdown between the two adversaries, Kenobi and Maul wasn’t as epic as hoped but in many ways touching and tragic. Warning, spoilers ahead…
Ezra receives holocron message and fears for Obi-Wan Kenobi’s life as Maul is set on finding and killing the old Jedi Master. The Ghost crew however believes Kenobi is already dead and this message is simply a trap by Maul. Refusing to believe Kenobi is dead, Ezra and Chopper sneak away and head to Tatooine. Things don’t go too well for Ezra upon arriving on Tatooine as his ship gets destroyed by Tusken Raiders. Now, Ezra must wander the endless desert in search of Kenobi.
To complicate things further, Chopper shuts down and after having hallucinations of Maul; Ezra passes out form heat exhaustion. He later wakes up next to a fire and finds that Obi-Wan had saved him and Chopper. Ezra proceeds to warn him about Maul and ask that he joined the rebellion. Kenobi refuses and although he has no intention of fighting Maul he also knows its inevitable.
Maul arrives and Kenobi sends Ezra away. The two adversaries exchange words and draw their lightsabers. Kenobi quickly defeats Maul by breaking Maul’s saber in half. With Maul dying in Kenobi’s arms, he asks if “he” was the Chosen One who would avenge them. Kenobi says yes and Maul dies. The “he” turns out to be Luke Skywalker. The episode ends with Kenobi watching a young Luke in the distance. This was a very powerful ending that continued to build towards the films.
