You can tell that The Walking Dead is coming to an end of a season when things come full circle for several of our survivors. Such was the case for Rosita and Sasha as they continue their suicide mission to kill Negan. Warning, spoilers, ahead…
“The Other Side,” focused a lot on the relationships, good and bad, that several characters continue to struggle against. Friendships that seemed forever broken since the season première finally had its moment of closure and forgiveness between Maggie and Daryl. While not a lot of words were said, it was the quality of such words that gave it value. Much like the reunion between Daryl and Rick, this too pulled on the same emotions.
Then there are the relationships between adversaries. The continued game that Simon plays with Gregory just makes you dislike Gregory more for his scheming and cowardice persona than Simon for his arrogance. Then there is Gregory and Jesus. A power struggle that seems ready to explode at a moment’s notice. Gregory even went as so far to threaten Jesus. Can’t help but wonder if he’ll sell out Maggie to the Saviors. Which brings us to Rosita and Sasha. They’re adversaries because they shared a love for Abraham that they both brutally lost in the opener. Having saw this, should have brought them together but furthered the rift between them. This one-way ticket to the Sanctuary to assassinate Negan did finally heal some old wounds. Or at the very least give the women a better understanding of who they are. This was especially true for Rosita who kept things closer to the vest than most of the other characters. It feels very much like a farewell for one of them if not both.
The biggest surprise was Eugene. When Rosita and Sasha come across Eugene, they want to break him free and he refuses. Has he turned? Has he become a “Negan”? Rosita’s reaction pretty much echoes what the audience must have said at home. With Eugene running off, Sasha took it upon herself to lock Rosita out and go after Negan by herself, stating that it wasn’t Rosita’s time yet to die. The last moments of the episode showed a man with a crossbow staring at Rosita. Was that Daryl or as some have speculated, Dwight. Stay tuned…
May the Dork be with you,
