Chase has Oliver’s family and friends on the deserted island Oliver once called home of Lian Yu. To save them all, Oliver assembles a group of unlikely allies which includes Slade Wilson, the man who murdered his mother. Warning, spoilers ahead…
Desperate times call for extreme measures as Oliver, Slade, Malcom, Nyssa and Harkness aka Captain Boomerang search the island and ready themselves to battle Chase and his army. It doesn’t take long for Harkness to show his allegiance to Chase when a trap is set by Talia. Malcom and Nyssa arrive in time to save Oliver and the others.
As Oliver, Slade and Nyssa search for Oliver’s son and the other members of the team, Malcom leads Felicity, Curtis and Thea to a nearby plane to fly them to safety. Unfortunately, Thea steps on a landmine and Malcom quickly takes her place and orders her the others to find the plane and leave the island as Harkness and Chase’s army close in on them. In keeping up with the “hero” theme that has been very clear this week in the Arrowverse, Malcolm sacrifices himself by activating the mine as Harkness arrives. Of course, anytime someone dies off-screen, the possibilities of their return are always there.
Meanwhile, Oliver locates and frees John, Rene, Dinah and Quentin. Chase, Black Siren and Talia intercept them and an all-out brawl occurs. As this is happening, Felicity reaches the plane only to discover that the entire island was rigged with C4 and will explode should Chase die and the plane was sabotaged by Chase rendering it useless. Chase has planned this whole situation perfectly. Oliver instructs Felicity to get to the ship on the other side of the island.
Oliver boards Chase’s boat and finds William. Chase tasks Oliver with a choice, kill him and save William but lose everyone on the island. Or, watch his son die, kill him for killing his son and the others still die. And even if Oliver spares his life, he would have to live with the fact he let William die. Either way, Chase wins. Oliver shoots Chase with an arrow and saves William. Chase laughs as he takes out a gun and kills himself. Oliver and William watch in horror as the entire island explodes leaving the fate of everyone Oliver loves unknown. This was a powerful finale and certainly gut wrenching to say the least.
Arrow returns for a sixth season in the Fall.
