Monday night marked the beginning of the end for Star Wars: Rebels, a series that has been a fan favorite since its debut in the fall of 2014. Warning, spoilers ahead…
The first of back-to-back episodes was “Jedi Night” in which the Ghost Crew look to extract a captured Hera from an Imperial Command Center in Lothal City. Things are not looking good for Hera as she is subjected to torture tactics by Governor Pryce who wants to know the location of the rebels. Ezra, Kanan and Sabine infiltrate the command center using gliders that go undetected. As Ezra and Sabine secure a gun ship to use in their escape, Kanan was able to free Hera.
Using one of the gliders, Kanan and Hera flee the command center and immediately come under attack forcing them to land inside the centers fuel depot. Ezra and Sabine race to pick them up just as a pursuing Pryce closes in. Pryce orders her troops to open fire on the surrounding fuel tanks. An explosion soon follows trapping Kanan and Hera. Using the Force, Kanan contains the blast allowing Hera to be saved but in the process costing him his own life.
Following the events of “Jedi Night”, “Dume” allows for everyone and in particular Ezra to cope with the loss of Kanan. After the ill-advised destruction of the Imperial fuel depot that results in having Thrawn’s TIE Defender project to get shutdown, Pryce tries to cover up her blunder by throwing a victory parade. Thrawn however is not fooled by her attempts. Meanwhile, Sabine and Zeb go back to Lothal City where they engage in a fight against Rukh. After beating him unconscious they send him back to show the Imperials that the rebels are still in this fight till the end.
Ezra on the other hand is having a hard time dealing with Kanan’s death and sinks deeper into despair. He is later challenged by the Loth-Wolves who lead him toward a gigantic Loth-Wolf called Dume. Dume wants Ezra to face his fears and advises him to return to the Lothal Jedi temple. When he returns, Ezra leads his friends to a Jedi temple where he intends to recover precious knowledge from the hands of the Imperials.
