The Series Finale of Star Wars Rebels

Monday night saw the end of the very popular animated series, Star Wars Rebels. Much like its predecessor The Clone Wars, Rebels fits beautifully into the Star Wars lore. And like everything that is Star Wars, there was triumph and heartbreak. Warning, spoilers ahead…

With Pryce as their prisoner, the Ghost Crew use her clearance to infiltrate an Imperial command center. They force their way into the control room and ready themselves to issue an evacuation order to will call back all Imperial forces to return to the center. Thrawn is warned by Rukh who had overheard the plans, who immediately tasks him to disable the planets shield system. Thrawn arrives on his Star Destroyer just as Kallus issues the evacuation order. When Rukh disables the planetary shield generators, Thrawn orders the Rebels to stand down or he will level the city. Ezra complies and surrenders. He does so to buy time for the rest of the Rebels to move in and reactive the shields.

With Ezra in custody, Thrawn puts him in contact with the Emperor in holographic form. Meanwhile, Mart seeing that the original plan was now in jeopardy, takes the Ghost to initiate Ezra’s backup plan. As the fight rages on between the Rebels and the Imperial forces, Emperor Palpatine tempts Ezra with a promise to revive his parents. Ezra resists and escapes but not before destroying the temple and portal that led to his parents. The Rebels were able to raise the planets shields before Thrawn could bombard the city below.

Zeb battles and traps Rukh inside the shield generator as it activates, instantly killing him.The Rebels are not without their casualties however when Gregor gets shot and is mortally wounded. He continues to fight before succumbing to his injuries and dies. Ezra battles his way to face off against Thrawn. The backup plan Ezra had devised with Mart was to bring the purrgil. They arrive and destroy all of Thrawn’s fleet. The purrgil then take hold of Thrawn’s flagship and prepare to drag it into hyperspace. Ezra uses the Force to keep both Thrawn in place as well as keep Imperial forces from entering the bridge. The Ghost Crew pleas with Ezra to return to them but he decides to stay to see this battle with Thrawn come to an end. We then see the purrgil drag the flagship into hyperspace.

The Rebels proceed with the plan and destroy the command center. With such a victory against the Empire, Hera witnesses the people of Lothal not only celebrate but take arms against the remaining Imperial forces that remained. We then fast forward and through the narration by Sabine we learn that both Hera and Rex fought during the Battle of Endor. Zeb takes Kallus to Lira San where he is welcomed bas one of them. It is also revealed that Hera gave birth to Kanan’s son. And as for Sabine, she teams up with Ahsoka to search for Ezra. The last image we see is a mural of the Ghost Crew, a fitting end to a wonderful series.

May the Dork be with you,
