MOVIE REVIEW: INCREDIBLES 2

It’s been 14 long years since Incredibles hit theaters but the wait was so worth it with Pixar’s Incredibles 2Warning, spoilers ahead…

This time around superheroes are considered outlaws but there is a movement to change that. This movement is spearheaded by rich siblings Winston and Evelyn Deavor (voiced by Bob Odenkirk and Catherine Keener) who hope to right the wrong when their parents were killed and no superheros were around to save them. The one stipulation is that they are only interested in Helen/ElastiGirl (Holly Hunter). With Helen now in the spotlight this leaves Bob (Craig T. Nelson) to become Mr. Mom to Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack and his emerging superpowers. Adjusting to the “normal” life is tough on everyone. Even math becomes a challenge to Bob because math isn’t really math anymore and why would they change it? If you’re a parent, you’ll totally understand his pain.

Things go awry when a new villain with hypnotic abilities hatches a plan to wreak havoc on the world. This forces Bob and the family along with Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) to find a way to work together and save the world. Writer/director Brad Bird does a phenomenal job with the story line that is filled with action, adventure and lots of laughs that is right for all ages. Usually when there is a long gap between sequels the results are not always wonderful. Sometimes they feel dated and not a nostalgic as we would have hoped for. Incredibles 2 stands on its own merit and I highly recommend seeing it. It may be one of the best superhero films out there.

James aka “The Dork Knight” is a blogger and writer based out of Upstate New York. For James, it all started with a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… when he dragged his mom to see The Empire Strikes Back 10 weeks in a row. He lives and breathes nerd culture. James is proof that a Star Wars fanatic can be a passionate Trekkie as well. So much so James dressed up as Captain Kirk to the premiere of Star Trek VI in 1991 and still has the uniform. When it comes to Comic Books, Sci-Fi or Fantasy whether in print or digital, in the theatre or on my TV screen, I’m all about it and I love it.
