The Walking Dead Season 9 premiere Recap

The journey to the last episodes of Rick Grimes begun Sunday night with the aptly named “A New Beginning”. Warning, spoilers ahead…

It’s been eighteen months since Saviors defeat and capture of Negan. Today the various communities of Alexandria, Hilltop and the Sanctuary are all working together to rebuild society. The one who suffers the most however is the Sanctuary with its infertile ground the non-support from the Saviors had once provided them. This situation will most certainly add as a foreshadowing of things to come throughout season nine.

To help, Rick leads a team to a Washington, D.C. museum to try to recover some pioneering supplies. Some of the episodes more intense scenes take place here and still reminds us why we do care for these characters. As Rick and company head back home, they find that the main bridge that leads to Hilltop has been destroyed forcing them to make a detour. Unfortunately a young man named Ken is killed by walkers when he attempts to free a group of horses.

Back at Hilltop, Gregory, the ousted former leader in trying to rid himself of Maggie, convinces Ken’s father, Earl, to try to kill Maggie but fails. It doesn’t take much investigating for Maggie to know who was actually behind the attempt and confronts Gregory. The two fight with Maggie gaining the edge with a knife against his throat. To make an example and send a message against such aggression, Maggie has Gregory publicly executed for his actions. Understandable and probably a necessary move but one can’t help but think Maggie’s move was very Negan like. We’ll have to see where this action will take her and the others moving forward.
