And the Oscar goes too….

The Oscar

Last night we celebrated the 92nd Academy Awards. The host-less awards show had its typical political jabs, stand up comedic moments that were both a hit and miss as well some surprises.

Best Picture

I thought after the first hour which saw eight of the twenty-four categories get awarded, we might end this on time at 11PM Est. No such luck. It did however end just before 11:30PM which is a victory by Hollywood standards. The night opened with Brad Pitt capturing Best Supporting Actor for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Shortly thereafter Toy Story 4 won for Best Animated Feature. While that was my personal pick, this category proved to be a head scratcher for most.

From there, the night belonged to top contender 1917 and the underdog, Parasite from South Korea. In the end, Parasite not only won for Best International feature but the biggest prize as Best Picture. In total Director Bong Joon Ho’s film captured four awards out of six. Sam Mendes’ war film, 1917 took home three out of four. Technically the biggest losers of the night was Joker despite scoring a Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix, went home with only two out of the eleven awards they were up for. But the biggest loser was Martin Scorese’s The Irishman, who was completely shut out of all ten categories.

Other winners included, Renee Zellweger for Best Actress in Judy, Laura Dern for Supporting Actress in Marriage Story and Elton John’s “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” as Best Original Song for Rocketman. Besides Parasite taking top honors, the biggest surprise for me is Quentin Tarantino coming up short on a personal level despite the recognition for Once Upon a Time…

Let the race for Oscar 2021 begin now….

James aka “The Dork Knight” is a blogger and writer based out of Upstate New York. For James, it all started with a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… when he dragged his mom to see The Empire Strikes Back 10 weeks in a row. He lives and breathes nerd culture. James is proof that a Star Wars fanatic can be a passionate Trekkie as well. So much so James dressed up as Captain Kirk to the premiere of Star Trek VI in 1991 and still has the uniform. When it comes to Comic Books, Sci-Fi or Fantasy whether in print or digital, in the theatre or on my TV screen, I’m all about it and I love it. So bring your Phaser (set to stun), Lightsaber, Sonic Screwdriver, a Wand, Mjolnir or the Ring to rule them all, because this site is for the dork in all of us.
